2010 Pine Tree Distinguished Alumni Announcement
The Pine Tree Education Foundation and Alumni Community Board of Directors are pleased to announce that the following former Pine Tree students will be honored as the 2010 Pine Tree Distinguished Alumni at the 2nd Annual Alumni Homecoming Luncheon on Friday, September 17, 2010:
Dorothy Brunson Nash, Class of 1953
Dorothy is a retired educator (Burleson ISD) who throughout her adult life has been involved in touching and changing lives in the field of education, her community and her church. She served and held offices on numerous local and state educational committees during her career as an educator. She has devoted a lifetime to numerous community organizations and activities and continues to be a visible, viable member of her community through her dedicated service and leadership to civic and church organizations. As a cancer survivor, Dorothy has participated in the Susan B. Koman Relay for Life and participated in Lymphoma and Leukemia Foundation fund-raisers. Currently, Dorothy is serving on the Burleson Heritage Foundation Board as a volunteer Coordinator for the Museum and Visitor's Center.
Fred Grant Van Orsdol, Class of 1965
Since graduation from Stephen F. Austin and Texas Tech universities and serving his country as an Air Force pilot in Vietnam, Fred has accomplished much in his professional life in the oil and gas industry. He has received numerous honors, certificates and awards and is considered an expert in virtually every phase of the natural gas and natural gas liquids industry from the wellhead to the end user, both onshore and offshore. He has published articles in the Oil and Gas Journal and made presentations at various oil and gas association meetings. Fred is a Rotary Club member and has participated in the Adopt a School program, teaching 2 weeks in a high school class for a total of 2 weeks per year for 3 years. He is involved in many philanthropic organizations and is always willing to help any cause or organization that he feels is worthy of support. Currently, Fred resides with his wife Karen in Oklahoma and serves as the Vice President, Audits and Loss Control, SPL Inc., Houston, TX.
Kristy Kaplan Herrman, Class of 1993
Kristy graduated as the Valedictorian of Pine Tree High School in 1993 and continued her education at the University of Texas at Austinand completed her medical degree at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas in 2001.Kristi has earned certification as Diplomate, American Board of Pediatrics and Diplomate, Sub-Board of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine and has had research published in the Archives of Disease in Childhood. Currently, Kristy is a Board Certified Neonatologist in Level III NICU with the Pediatrix Medical Group, Austin, TX. She is devoted to her profession providing wonderful care to very premature infants and to their families. She is fluent in Spanish to allow her easy communication with many of her families. Kristi has worked as a volunteer for the Habitat for Humanity and Pediatric Alliance of Central Texas and serves as a director on the board of the Mother's Milk Bank of Austin.
The foundation/alumni community will host the Distinguished Alumni Luncheon on Friday, September 17th at the Multi-Purpose Facility (gym) on the PT High School Campus from 11:00-1:00. Reservations to the luncheon are necessary and may be made online or by mailing a check for the number of reservations @$15.00 each to PTEF, Attn: Alumni, P.O. Box 5878, Longview, TX 75608.
