Cadet David Andrew Shore graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in May, 2009. He is the son of Stephen and Teresa Shore, and grandson of R.J. and Grace Shore, all of Longview. Shore graduated from Pine Tree High School in 2005. While at West Point, he concentrated his studies in mechanical engineering and played defensive end on the Army football team. Shore was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army within the Engineers branch.
Ryan Sinclair, a Pine Tree High School graduate, finished his baseball season at Stephen F. Austin State University in May 2009. Sinclair had five hits (one double, two homers) this season. He was issued 10 walks, scored six runs and drove home six. Stephen F. Austin finished its season 23-32 and 14-18 in the Southland Conference.
In the men's division of the Conference USA finals, Pine Tree's Clay Baker, a Rice University sophomore, competed in three events and scored points in all three. His highest finish was in the discus. Baker was fourth with a toss of 156-11. He also took fifth in the shot put (50-11) and sixth in the hammer (159-3). Rice finished third with 112 points. Houston won the meet with 198.
Former Pine Tree distance runner Garrett Sage scored points in the Sun Belt Conference Track and Field Finals. The University of North Texas harrier was fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, crossing the finish line in (9:19.42). He was also 17th in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:21.13.
Pine Tree graduate Garrett Sage also finished third in the 3,000-meter run at the Mean Green Twilight Invitational hosted by North Texas. Sage completed the race in 8 minutes, 57.62 seconds.
Pine Tree product Whitney Baker recently wrapped up her freshman softball season at Texas Wesleyan. Baker, who played in 20 games, finished with a .209 batting average, four RBIs, two doubles, two runs and three walks. Texas Wesleyan ended its season 18-32 overall and 9-11 in the Red River Athletic Conference.
